Adopt a Knight Announcement
We're starting a program called Adopt
a Knight!
We're looking for school teachers
who want to do this with their kids as an on-going
project during the school year.
We're getting more little knights
with cancer every day and we could really use some help
in being their army.
Any teacher interested in doing
this will receive a Velveteen
Rabbit book to start the discussion of how
love is what makes us real and a picture of a particular
knight that their class is adopting. ( knights will be
chosen according to the best match to a classroom. for
example 16 year old Sir Alison the Awesome might be
adopted by a high school class, while 8 year old Sir
River Sage would have an elementary grade classroom
adopting him. An information package about the child and
their particular needs will also be included.
How it works...
Your children will come up with a
name for their kingdom and be in direct communication
with their knight via you, their teacher. They'll make
cards and pictures, letters, sending queasy pops and the
like to the child throughout the school year. They might
do something special for them for their birthday or if a
sibling is having a hard time include them as well. We
invite teachers to be inventive and creative in their
approach. This can be as simple or elaborate as you
like.
The children will all take on
their own royal names and start functioning as a group
from medieval times. They'll become the child's own
personal Magical Moon Army!
You, the teacher, will be king or
queen of the kingdom! How fun is that?
If the kids have a fund raising
event raising $100 they can send a
Courage Package
out to another knight in another kingdom in their
knight's name. That kingdom will also be a classroom.
Many children with cancer have to
be in isolation for long lengths of time. To be able to
interact with other children via the internet and mail
would be such an uplifting thing. A positive mental and
emotional state of mind has such an enormous effect on
our health. This will also help their parents to know
that people care deeply for their children and are
willing to take an active role in helping them with
their battle.
We already have a number of
teachers who are planning on doing this!
If you're a teacher or know
someone who is, please consider this and pass this
along. This is a great way to give students a valuable
learning experience and help a family at the same time.
If you have any questions please
contact me by email.

Also, please let me know if you
know of a child we can help.
There's nothing like children
reaching out to other children to make a difference in
the world!
Love and more energy to you all!
