Students from
Weymouth High School in Massachusetts raised over $200
dollars for the Velveteen Rabbit’s Gift of Courage.
They did this by making fudge in their cooking class and
selling it. They made signs, gave out flyers and worked
very diligently on their marketing strategies.
Their teacher, Nancy Hanson is no stranger to children
reaching out to help someone going through cancer. In
1993 when her 22 year old son, Billy was undergoing
treatments for a very aggressive tumor, their family was
overwhelmed by the support and kindness of young
students from St Ambrose Elementary School in
Dorchester.
The children prayed for Billy Hanson daily and continued
to stand behind him sending cards and letters till he
was well again.
This beautiful spiritual network is evident again in the
students at Weymouth High School. They’re very committed
to helping children with cancer. They raised enough
money to send The Velveteen Rabbit’s Gift of Courage
package to two little knights fighting the disease.
The students took a bus to the Donna Green Studio in
Cohasset center to present their check to Donna for the
Courage project.
While they were at the studio they were the first to
meet “Magic” the magical Moon’s wild baby rabbit who is
a survivor and one more beautiful auspicious sign that
the courage package is on its way!

The whole idea behind this project for children going
through cancer is how to turn something difficult into a
healing adventure. It’s about tapping into inner
strengths and finding resilience through facing fear.
These students learned that if you go beyond your own
needs and put time into service to others you get so
much more in return.
The students are very excited about coming up with new
ideas to continue to help Donna Green with her mission .
What a beautiful example they are to young people of the
world today!
More power to you, Nancy Hanson for “paying it forward”
and giving your students some REAL education!
